"Luminous Landscapes" at Artits' Gallery in Lambertville, NJ

"Luminous Landscapes"
a 2-person show with Joe Kazimierczyk and Alex McKibbin
at Artists' Gallery in Lambertville, NJ

October 8 - November 1, 2015
Opening Reception: Saturday, October 10, 5-8 pm

This month at Artists' Gallery, I'm teaming up with Alex McKibbin for our 2-man show "Luminous Landscapes". This will be my biggest show for the year and I hope you can stop by to see it.

I'll be showing a body of work with a strong sky theme again, although quite different than my show here last year. It'll be a mix of new work and some early pieces with about 15 paintings on display. Here are a couple of them:

"Winter, Late Afternoon"
11x14" oil on canvas

"Sunrise"
16x20" oil on canvas

Alex McKibbin is one of Artists' Gallery's newest members so you may not have seen his work yet. Alex paints large scale watercolors in a loose and expressive style - quite different from my own style of oil painting, and I think our work compliments each other nicely.

Alex has been painting professionally for 58 years and has taught art history, painting and drawing here in the U.S. as well as in Greece and Mexico. His work can be found in 31 public collections and in over 67 corporate collections.

"Luminous Landscapes" runs October 8 through November 1, 2015 with an opening reception on Saturday, October 10, 5-8 pm at:

Artists' Gallery
18 Bridge Street
Lambertville, NJ
[map & directions]
Gallery hours: Thursday through Sunday 11am-6pm

I hope you can join us!

Pinot to Picasso - Vintage 2015

The Arts Council of Princeton's annual Pinot to Picasso fundraiser is coming soon, and this is the painting that I have in the event - it's a scene along the Raritan River at Duke Island Park near Bridgewater, NJ.

"Duke Island Park"
8x10" oil on board

Mine will be one of 90 paintings that local artists have donated to the event.  The paintings are currently on display at Arts Council's Taplin Gallery at 102 Witherspoon Street, Princeton, NJ, and there is an Artists' Reception here on Thursday, April 9th from 5-7pm.

The main event happens on Saturday, April 18th from 6 – 10 pm at Herring Properties, 281 Witherspoon Street, Princeton, NJ.  It's always quite the party, and the evening culminates with the Tombola, an Italian-style lottery where the artworks are raffled off.  It's always a fun event!

More information on Pinot to Picasso, along with ticket information can be found here: http://artscouncilofprinceton.org/pinot-to-picasso-2/

Mostly Monochrome

This month's show at Artists' Gallery is "Mostly Monochrome" - a group show where each artwork is primarily composed around a single color.  The show runs until April 5  at:

Artists' Gallery
18 Bridge Street
Lambertville, NJ 08530  [map]

Monochrome does not mean black and white and it's actually a very colorful show. Here are 2 pieces I have in the show - not exactly monochrome but mostly so:

"Route 202 Cloudscape"
16x20" oil on canvas

"Autumn Gold"
16x20" oil on canvas

Besides the 2 paintings in the "Mostly Monochrome" group show, I also have these 5 works in the gallery - I chose this group because they have a pretty subdued color scheme that I think works well with the monochrome theme going on in the gallery's main space:

more works at Artists' Gallery

And finally, I have one more piece elsewhere in the gallery - a pretty colorful one, but you'll have to visit the gallery to see it.   ;)

February 2015 at Artists' Gallery

Above is a group of small works I current have hanging at:

Artists' Gallery
18 Bridge Street
Lambertville, NJ 08530  [map]

But the main event at Artists' Gallery is "Lyrical", a group show with all 16 gallery artists.  Each piece in the show is accompanied by a lyric from song or poem which inspired the piece.  Here are my 2 pieces from "Lyrical" and the Robert Frost poem I chose to accompany each:

"Montgomery Winter Sunset"
18x24" oil on canvas

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

-- Robert Frost

"Springtime on the Neshanic"
12x24" oil on canvas

Spring Pools

These pools that, though in forests, still reflect
The total sky almost without defect,
And like the flowers beside them, chill and shiver,
Will like the flowers beside them soon be gone,
And yet not out by any brook or river,
But up by roots to bring dark foliage on.

The trees that have it in their pent-up buds
To darken nature and be summer woods -
Let them think twice before they use their powers
To blot out and drink up and sweep away
These flowery waters and these watery flowers
From snow that melted only yesterday.

-- Robert Frost

"Lyrical" is running now through March 1, 2015 - stop by if you can!

Imaginied Skies at Bell's Tavern

I'm back at Bell's Tavern with a solo show of my "Imagined Skies" - a series of cloudscapes and skyscapes painted mainly from imagination and memory. They are smaller works, with only one large painting in the show.

"Imagined Sky #14"
5x7" oil on linen

This is the series of paintings I had exhibited at Artists' Gallery in my show with Gail Bracegirdle back in July, 2014. So if you didn't get a chance to see the paintings then, here's another chance. And even if you did see the show in July, here's another excuse to visit Bell's - it really is my favorite restaurant in town, and right now the artwork there looks especially nice.

"Imagined Sky #17"
8x10" oil on linen

The show runs January 8 through March 1, 2015 at:
Bell's Tavern
183 North Union Street
Lambertville, NJ 08530
[map & directions]
Please note that Bell's has dinner and evening hours only:
Mon-Thurs 6pm-9:30pm, Fri & Sat 5pm-10pm, Sun 5pm-9pm
