This November I'm teaming up with Joseph Zogorski for a 2-man at Artists' Gallery in Lambertville, NJ. Joe Zogorski is a photographer and I think his black and white nature photography works really well with my landscape paintings.

'Quietude' is defined as the state of peacefulness; stillness; tranquility. Joe and I both find our inspiration in the quiet and serenity of the world around us, and I think our work is the embodiment of quietude.

My inspiration continues to come primarily from the hikes I take as I explore the woodlands and mountains of north Jersey, and in this show I have a strong theme of rivers and streams. I never really plan a theme for my shows and I usually don't even realize that I have a theme until I step back and look at the new work I've done. This year I've definitely been fascinated by rivers and streams.

Joe Zogorski's nature photography focuses on the remaining rural countryside of Bucks County, PA and nearby parts of New Jersey. The lives of his ancestors and their stories of living in a community closely tied to the land help to inform his image making.

This is the most work that I will have on display at any one time this year, so I hope you get a chance to stop by and experience some quietude.

Winter Trek - a Group Show at NY-NJ Trail Conference

NY-NJ Trail Conference headquarters in the historic Darlington Schoolhouse

Recently, almost all of my inspiration for painting comes from the hikes that I've been doing around northern New Jersey and southern New York state.   The New York-New Jersey Trail Conference is the organization that builds and maintains so many of the trails that I enjoy using.  They built the first section of the Appalachian Trail in 1923 and have been going strong ever since.

The Trail Conference is having a group art exhibition titled "Winter Trek" at their headquarters in the historic Darlington Schoolhouse. The show features artwork celebrating winter scenes along their trails.

The show runs January 11 - March 5, 2019
Opening reception:  January 17, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
At: Trail Conference Headquarters, 600 Ramapo Valley Road, Mahwah, NJ
To attend the opening reception, please register here.

If you go to see the show, there's some good hiking at Ramapo Valley County Reservation, adjacent to the Trail Conference headquarters

Here are the 2 pieces I have in the show, both are December scenes at Stephens State Park in northern New Jersey:

"The Musconetcong" 15x30 in oil on canvas

"Winter at Stephens" 8x10 in oil on linen on board

Landscape Paintings at Bell's Tavern

I'm happy to be exhibiting my work at Bell's Tavern once again.  I am showing a mix of recent work, and some earlier pieces.

The show runs Jan 10 until early March, 2019 at:

Bell's Tavern

[map & directions]

Please note that Bell's has dinner and evening hours only:
Mon-Thurs 6pm-9:30pm, Fri & Sat 5pm-10pm, Sun 5pm-9pm

As always, I highly recommend this restaurant - the food is great, I've never been disappointed, prices are reasonable, and the walls are always displaying the work of some local artist - I am happy to be that artist this January and February.

Here are a few of the pieces I have in this show:

"Lower Ausable Lake" 24x30 in. oil on canvas

"Woodfern Winter" 11x14 in. oil on canvas

"Grandview Sunset" 18x24 in. oil on canvas
